About the Society

The Society is the only one in South Wales and draws its membership from Cardiff, Neath, Newport, and the South Wales and Monmouthshire valleys.

The society was formed in 1958 for the furtherance of the study of all kinds of coins, medals, awards, tokens and paranumismatica. The society emblem is based on a groat of Edward I (1272-1307).

The Society enjoys an annual programme which consists of lectures, quarterly auctions, visits and social evenings. Members' interests range from Roman coins and history which reflects the strong Roman influence at nearby Caerleon and Caerwent, to hammered coinage, milled coinage, patterns and proofs, medals, medallions, bank notes, and Welsh tokens and paranumismatica.

The Society has organised two BANS congresses in Caerleon 1995 and Cwmbran 2007.
